They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I believe that to be true! When designing my farm space, I wanted it to not only be functional but also aesthetically pleasing. I wanted it to be practical for my needs, yet someplace I could unwind and enjoy on a warm summer evening.
Maybe farm isn't the right word even, perhaps garden better describes the space and arrangement. There is definitely a design component to the space that most "farms" would not have. Yet, most flower growers who grow for retail purposes, do not label their space as a garden, but a farm.
The point being this, you can have a space both aesthetically pleasing and functional for your needs. Whether you want to grow flowers, herbs, or vegetables (or a beautiful combination of all three), include a place to sit amongst the plants. Whether you have only 10 feet of space or 10 acres, carving out that tiny niche where you can sip lemonade and admire both your hard work and beauty of the growing plants is a simple, yet calming way to enjoy nature. I encourage you to incorporate this space into your garden/farm area.
Pinterest is my bff when it comes to designing. You can find 100's of picture inspirations to get your idea off the ground. Whether you want overgrown arches, trellises, or nice neat linear rows, there is inspiration for all types of growers.
So, while your ground may still be chilly and covered with an icy blanket of snow, use this time to design. Find the pictures and choose your plants....have fun!! Design a space for you!!
